On March 18th,
2025 we were getting ready for bed just like every other night. I had gotten
into bed and realized that I needed to go to the bathroom. So I got out of bed
and to spare you the details my water broke! I went back into our room and told
Duskin that I thought that my water broke. He, being half asleep, just says
okay and goes back to sleep. I then called my mom to make sure this is what it
was and she had told me that I should go to the hospital and she will back her
bag and be on her way as soon as I check into the hospital and it’s the real deal! I then went back into our room and told
Duskin that I was serious, my water broke! He then realized what I said and got
out of bed and began getting his stuff on and called his mom as well.
We then got packed
up and headed to the hospital.
Was this really happening?
The whole drive I was smiling but also freaking out. I was so nervous!
We checked in and
waited for them to come get us so that they could check me. Duskin kept in
contact with my mom to keep her updated so she knew whether to come or not. We got
to results and it was my water!! They had also told me that the baby had also
already pooped. Gross I know. But luckily I wasn’t freaked
out about it because Duskin’s Aunt Kate had told me about that and how
it happened with one of her kids as well. Thank goodness I knew about that
happening a head of time.
We then waited a
little bit longer until they moved us into our DELIVERY room! My parents were
on their way and Duskin’s mom was going to wait till morning to
come. (My parents live 2 ½ hours away and Duskin’s live 3 ½ hours away.) When they checked me I was
also only dilated to a 1 so I knew he wasn’t coming soon or I would have been freaking
out not having my mom there.
Contractions were getting
harder and were consistent but went all night with not any progress. They didn’t want to start me on anything to see if I would progress on
my own and they would check in the morning. So we waited and still not dialated
anymore. However my doctor changed and the new doctor wanted me to still try
and progress on my own. By this time I had already been up all night with hard
contractions and they weren’t getting any better. They waited a couple
more hours and then finally started me on pitocin and contractions were really hard
now but they wouldn’t give me an epidural because I wasn’t progressed enough. Finally after many hours on that I still
was only dilated to a 2. By this time I was in a lot of pain and felt like I was
never going to have this baby!
They finally gave
me something that helped with the pain that also made me really tired and WAY
out of it! I don’t remember much but I do remember finally
being able to sleep in between contractions (if you can imagine that) and
Duskin trying to make me say funny things.
FINALLY at about
7:30 pm I talked them into giving me the epidural. BEST. THING. EVER. About an
hour and a half later I was dialated to a 4 and slowly kept going. Progressed till
about a 6 and then it slowed down again. And by this time the epidural wasn’t fulling working any more. If it wasn’t for my mom and Duskin I would have never got through this!
My mom kept trying to keep my mind off the contractions which only worked for
so long.
Progressed all the
way and ready to start pushing! Pushed for about 2 hours and still nothing. He
did not want to come out! The Doctor finally came in to check things out and
see what was going on. He was head first like he needed to be but instead of
his face being turned down his head was turned up. The Doctor tried to turn him
several times and he just kept turning back. She finally gave me two options.
1.
Keep
pushing for a few hours to see if he will come out but I might still end up in
a C-section.
2. Get a C-sections now.
Well by this time I
had been in the hospital for about 35 hours and I was so done! I was in so much
pain and just wanted to have this baby already. I told her right then that I wanted
the C-section. She then looked at me and looked at Duskin and wanted to make
sure that was ok with him as well. So I looked at him and said “I’m done. I want the C-section.” And he wasn’t going to argue. They told me that would
take my back in about an hour.
They started going
over everything with Duskin and I telling us what to expect. They got us ready
took us to the Operating room. Duskin had to wait outside the room until they
got me all prepped. Once they put me on the table I began to shake so much I thought
I was going to fall off the table. The surgeons were incredibly nice were talking
to me the whole time an talking to one another about just everyday stuff and
that helped me calm down a lot. Finally Duskin came in and sat by my head and
was making sure I was okay since I was still shaking like crazy! I was so
nervous I was going to feel something but the doctors knew I was super nervous
and they were so amazing how they handled things. They then said that I was
going to feel lots of pressure because they had to push on my stomach to get
him out and they weren’t kidding!
Duskin was able to
take pictures of him and they amaze me! ( I will be posting them and they are graphic
so here is your warning!!)
The first thing my
doctor said to me was “Wow what a big boy. There is no way you would
have been able to push him out with how big he is and how twisted he was in
there.”
I heard his crying
and knew that everything was perfect. They showed me a quick look of him before
they took him to clean him up and my heart busted! I was so overcome with love
and accomplishment and relief. We finally had him here and he was the cutest
thing ever!! I laid there looking over at where he was as they called out with
measurements. They made a comment at how big his feet were. I just wanted to
hold him! They brought him over to me and asked if I wanted to hold him. I was
so nervous because I was still shaking uncontrollably and I didn’t want to drop him. I asked her if I could since I was shaking
so much and she said of course, your husband can help you hold him. She put him
on my chest and everything was perfect. We had our baby boy and he was
absolutely perfect. Duskin and I could not stop staring at him. I got to hold
him the whole time they were stitching me up! Duskin was so sweet and let me
hold him first. He didn’t get to hold him until we got back into
our delivery room. Our moms got to come in to see him and Duskin’s little sister Shiloh came in for a minute to see him before
she had to go to work.
We were then transferred
to our room where we would be till we go home. My dad and brother finally came
in and got to see him but didn’t get to hold him because my nurse was kind
of crazy! My dad had been there the whole time but had to head back to go to
work and he never got to hold him. I was so sad and upset at my nurse! But we
had our perfect little boy and we couldn’t be happier!
